Weekend in the backyard...
This past weekend I spent most of my time in the backyard getting ready for a few "additions".
A few weeks ago I hung this hammock. It's a very nice hand-made hammock from Nicaragua that Mary had given us for our wedding gift...5 years ago. We've been keeping in our closet all these years, but now that we actually go in the backyard with Fox, it was time to hang it up. Just about every afternoon, Fox and I will go out and play in the hammock...he loves it.
Friday night I started work on the fence, I dug four 2 ft. deep holes, dropped posts in them and filled them with concrete. I had forgotten how hard it was to dig in this rock-hard clay!
Saturday, I built the fence and the gate. Some of my best construction work to date, even if I do say so myself!
The fence was needed for this addition:
Tanji, Jeremy and Darcy's dog, is now living with us. Jeremy and Darcy moved to Vero Beach, and they couldn't take the dogs with them, so we took Tanji. She's shedding right now, and Michelle has already started sneezing, but we are keeping her. She's such a sweet dog, and Fox loves her. If you ask him "Where's Tanji?", he'll look at her and make the "T" sound. That's pretty good for a kid who now calls both his Mom and his Dad "Da Da". He also calls EVERYTHING ELSE "Da Da", too. I guess that's his new favorite syllable.
And now to the final addition. Once the fence was done and Tanji was settled in, I raked the 40 billion tons of leaves in the backyard. There's no way I could bag all that in one weekend, so I decided to start a compost pile. It quickly became the largest compost pile I've ever seen...I think I will call it Marjory.
This picture is a little misleading...it's only 3 feet tall and 6 feet wide, but it's almost 8 feet deep!
